It rained all day at the Appalachian Power Dollar Energy Fund Fishing for a Cause tournament on Smith Mountain Lake, until the weigh-in started in the afternoon on Sunday.

According to AEP, it was a great fund raiser for families in Virginia needing assistance to establish or keep utility service.

The winners of the biggest catch was the family team of Nichols and Nichols who received $1350 for a catch of 19.82 lbs. The husband and wife team of Erin and Christina Smith of Forest won the $2,000 grand prize drawing from among all participants.

About 50 boats participate (down from 75 last year). Appalachian Power thanked Conrad Brothers Marine and Basscast SML for their partnership.

The event was sponsored by Appalachian Power and Dollar Energy in partnership with Conrad Marine and Basscast SML.

Last year, the event raised more than $20,000 for needy Virginia customers needing assistance with establishing or keeping their utility service. Dollar Energy is a national 501 (c) 3 organization that raises funds for this purpose on behalf of Appalachian.
