A Boones Mill man is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Franklin County.

According to the Virginia State Police, a 2012 Ford Escape was traveling west on Route 116 Friday at 8 a.m. when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a rock. The vehicle then returned to the roadway and struck a guardrail. The driver, Randolph Francis Dolan, 59, of Boones Mill, was wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene.

According to the state police, Dolan may have had a medical emergency prior to the crash.

The crash is under investigation.
