The Region 2000 Services Authority board at a meeting last week, discussed the idea of allowing Bedford County to bring its commercial waste to the landfill on Livestock Road in Rustburg in Campbell county after the Bedford County Board of Supervisors learned that Bedford’s landfill only had about two years of life remaining.

According to Region 2000 Services Authority Director Clarke Gibson, the board is considering this but wants some more information and will likely meet again later this month or in July to further discuss it.

“No final decisions have been made either way,” Gibson said.

While allowing Bedford to bring its waste to the Livestock Road landfill would increase revenue, it would also decrease the life of the landfill.

“One of the things our board wanted us to look at when considering a tonnage amount was that the didn’t want to sacrifice more than a year’s worth of our existing permitted capacity,” Gibson said.
