SVFD presented with check

Members of the Scruggs Volunteer Fire Department receive a check for $5,100 in funds that were raised from the poker tournament at Hot Shots held last weekend on Saturday.

On Thursday morning, the Scruggs Volunteer Fire Department was presented with a check for $5,100. The money was raised from the poker tournament held at Hot Shots last weekend on Saturday.

The goal for the tournament was to raise $3,000. SVFD training officer George Taws stated that the success of the fundraiser shows how much support the department has from the community.

"That's what makes us active," Taws said. "It's why we want to go out and help people."
