Richard Frank Bishop of Richmond, Va., 89, husband of his beloved Rachel, passed away on October 20, 2011 at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond. Richard was born July 11, 1922, in Glen Cove, New York, the son of the late Frank and Lydia Rogers-Tozer-Bishop. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Parsons Flynn Bishop and her children, Thomas, Roberta, Dennis and the late Susan. He was predeceased by his first wife, Beatrice L. Bishop and is survived by his children, Carol Bishop, Robert Bishop, and Diane Pierro. He has a sister, Corinne Coniff, and deceased sister, Virginia Kennedy. A very kind and patient man, "Dick" was a private pilot, was very active as a ham radio operator, member of the Rotary Club, and Sea Scouts, in Oyster Bay, N.Y. He interrupted his early career as a flight engineer with Pan American to join the Navy during World War II. While flying over France, transporting supplies and personnel, he often had to navigate through enemy fire. He owned a TV repair shop in Oyster Bay, N.Y. called "Bishop's TV", for twenty-three years. Before retiring to Richmond, Mr. Bishop worked in Roanoke, Va., at ITT, while living at Smith Mountain Lake, where he enjoyed sailing and hosting family reunions with his wife. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, Oct. 28, 2011 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel at the McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.
