Charles Stanley Greene of Moneta, Va. passed away on May 1, 2019 to join his parents in heaven, Eliza Brooks and Charles Olin Greene. He was born in Cleveland County, North Carolina on June 11, 1933.
Stan leaves behind the love of his life, and wife of over 37 years, Ruth Tirrell Greene. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Beth) Greene Thomas; step-children, Deborah Myers and Michael Morris; grandchildren, Vincent Thomas, Ryan Robertson (Amanda), Tiffany Mikulcik (Zachary) , Nicholas Morris, Daniel Morris, Tyler Morris and Zachary Morris (Kaitlin); great-grandchildren, Brantley Thomas, Parker, Quinn & Coleman Robertson, Aiden, Sophia & Carter Falletta, and Kylie Mikulcik and two brothers, Samuel Allen Greene (Peggy) and James Albert Greene (Kirtan) and their children.
Stan graduated from Wake Forest University in 1958 and received his master's degree from the University of Tennessee. He was a fellow of the American Association of Mental Deficiency. He retired from his position as a social worker from the VA Medical Center in Salem, Va. in 1997.
Stan spent many happy years residing at Smith Mountain Lake, playing golf, boating and enjoying quality time with his family and friends. When he initiated a golf trip with his brothers in the early 1980s, Stan began an anticipated sibling tradition. Most of these trips were enjoyed in Pinehurst, N.C.
Stan was an avid reader and a great storyteller with an impeccable memory. He was admired by his grandchildren as a very intelligent, generous and caring person with a laid-back demeanor and a soft-spoken voice.
Stan and Ruth created many wonderful memories throughout their travels and trips to Myrtle Beach. Even more significant was their time spent sharing quiet evenings on their deck overlooking the Lake and feeling thankful for each other and the beauty around them.
A celebration of Stan's life will be held at his home at a later date.
