Arthur Joseph Dalton II, of Moneta, Va., went to his eternal rest on June 12, 2012 at the age of 81. He was born May 30, 1931 in Yonkers, N.Y. to Kathryn Hanlon Dalton and Arthur J. Dalton Sr. He was educated at Xavier High School and Fordham University. After considering a life in the Jesuit priesthood, he married and joined the U.S. Army. Upon returning from the Korean conflict, he began his long and successful career at IBM, achieving the pinnacle as Vice President of Information Technology for Allegheny International in Pittsburgh, Pa. Art will always be remembered for his deep love of his family, his keen sense of humor, his passion for flying, his warm smile, and the twinkle in his eyes. A true Irishman, he had a brilliant mind and wonderful soul. He was an avid bridge player, achieving the most coveted rank of Life Master. His thirty years of sobriety was his proudest accomplishment, through which he supported and loved many people. Arthur was previously married to Constance Joyce, and through this union nine beautiful children were born: Constance Ackerman, Ellen Milantoni, Arthur J. Dalton III, Elizabeth Kimball, Susan Dickinson, Kathryn Dutcher, Madeline Malone, Christopher Dalton, Paul Dalton. He is also survived by his sister Patricia McGuire of Vermont and nineteen grandchildren, all of whom loved him dearly. A celebration of his life took place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Smith Mountain Lake, Va. Arthur will be remembered with love and gratitude.
