To the Editor:

As a member of two of SML’s three Steel Drum bands, let me say “Thanks!” for your story about our upcoming “Carnivale” concert a the SML YMCA. The original March 26th date you cited, however has been changed to April 23rd in order to allow noted Roanoke-based jazz singer Jane Powell to be part of the program.  Jane and her band will do several numbers accompanied by steel drums and will also perform a solo set drawn from their worldwide appearances in clubs, concert venues and aboard cruise ships.

Those who attended “Carnivale” last year know what a great evening of music, food, dancing and socializing it was. How appropriate that this year Lakers can catch a dose of  “island fever” as the 50th Anniversary Celebration at SML enters full swing—as a matter of fact, we’re working on an arrangement of the anniversary theme song, “Jewel of the Blue Ridge,” to debut at the concert. Tickets can be purchased and group tables reserved by calling the SML YMCA at 721-9622.

Thanks again for helping people learn about this 50th Anniversary event.
